World Diabetes Day program

Gulf Medical University has organized a ‘World Diabetes Day Program’ on 14th November 2018 from 10:30 AM to 1 PM to celebrate the World Diabetes Day 2018. The program aimed to spread awareness about Diabetes Prevention and Control. The activities were planned based on the 2018 Diabetes Day Theme “The Family and Diabetes”. The College of Nursing, College of Medicine, College of Pharmacy and College of Health Sciences had collaborated to conduct various screening and educational activities for the students, faculty and staffs of Gulf Medical University.

Posters on various aspects of Diabetes-like diagnosis, treatment modalities, exercises, dietary advice, Insulin self-administration, Footcare, etc. were presented by the students in the Main Foyer of GMU.

The program was commenced in the main lecture Hall of GMU where the welcome address was given, and a skit was performed by the students to spread awareness about early detection, screening and management of diabetes.

Stations were put up in the main foyer by various colleges. The College of Nursing had put up the BMI Calculation, Blood Pressure monitoring, Blood Glucose monitoring stations. The nursing students guided the participants to complete all the screening and helped them fill a risk assessment form. This helped them identify the at-risk participants and then guide them to the next stations put up by College of Medicine, College of Pharmacy and College of Health Sciences where the participants were counselled and educated based on their identified risk.

A total of 110 risk assessment forms were filled. The overall response about the event was overwhelming and it also demonstrated a good interprofessional collaboration among the participating colleges.
