Strategic Plan 2023-27

Strategic Goal 1: Instil quality culture across GMU academic programs through integration, innovation, digitalization, and national and international engagement.

Objectives:

1.2 Full accreditation of the programs by CAA, Ministry of Education, UAE.

Activities:

  • Initial Accreditation for Postgraduate diploma & Master programs in two Specialties (Midwifery &
  • Neonatal Critical Care Nursing)
  • Initial Accreditation for two articulated Master programs in (Adult Critical Care Nursing & Renal and Dialysis Nursing)
  • BSN Program (Undergraduate) Reaccreditation
  • Full Accreditation for Master of Neonatal Critical Care Nursing

1.3 Expansion of international accreditation at institution and program levels.

Activities:

  • Initiate the process of international accreditation of the UG & Graduate programs by
  • Establish National and International MOUs
  • Initiate ‘Nursing Residency Programs’ as per the country’s proposal

1.4. Increase GMU’s visibility by enhancing its status in regional and global rankings by 2027.

Activities:

  • Conduct conferences, seminars, publish high-quality research papers, and presentations with
  • the goal of enhancing CoN’s exposure and ranking in both local and international contexts.
  • Increase CON faculty representation in external scientific conferences as speakers.

1.5. Strengthen the quality assurance system and assessment for all academic programs.

Activities:

  • Establish Program Learning outcomes
  • Student feedback mechanisms
  • Transparent reporting by Implementation of e-portfolio system in CoN
  • Benchmarking of the Academic Programs
  • Increase the number of faculty enrolment to the Masters in Health Profession Education

Strategic Goal 2: Expand the portfolio of health professions education programs (UG, PG and short courses) to respond to current and future societal and global needs.

Objectives:

2.1. Identify and develop a range of unique academic and professional development program offerings in UG, PG, and micro-credential programs based on health sector needs (Towards Sustainable Development Goals, internationalization, and online education)

Activities:

  • Developing online courses through the “Health Varsity” project
  • Developing Hybrid Short Courses e.g., Emergency & Disaster Management, Child Adolescent Mental Health, Diabetic Nurse Educator, Wound Management, Stoma care, Infection control, Psychiatric emergencies, Pain & Palliative care
  • Developing AI Health Care Club, CoN

2.2. Collaborate with reputable international universities to offer Faculty Development initiatives

Activities:

  • Initiate International Faculty Development Programs/ Academic Fellowship programs in Medical Education, Research, Leadership & Management

2.3. Sustain enrolment to full capacity across all programs.

Activities:

  • Increase CON’s Visibility by developing a comprehensive marketing and outreach strategy that targets key stakeholders, including students.
  • Conduct promotional activities in different Governmental schools

Strategic Goal 3: Developing Solution-Focused Research with impact on healthcare and health professions education.

Objectives:

3.1 Foster a research and innovation culture within GMU and offer the necessary supporting environment (infrastructure, physical facilities, and recruiting research-focused faculty and scientists).

Activities:

  • Effective utilization of TUH & Thumbay Hospital Ajman, nursing staff in Research activities
  • Retain/recruit faculty who are research-active
  • Establish MoUs with Regional/International Universities with sound Research background.

3.2. Developing research abilities of faculty and students.

Activities:

  • Establish a plan for research-based faculty development sessions and journal clubs
  • Increase in Quality Research productivity in Scopus-indexed journals
  • Increase number of Collaborative research projects with TUH, EHS, DH & SKMC nursing staff.

3.3. Diversify and sustain funding resources for research projects and maintain the concept for endowed research chairs to build continuous legacy funding.

Activities:

  • Collaborate with Funding agencies e.g., Al Jelila Foundation and apply for Research grants.

3.4 Activate the Thumbay Institute of Population Health

Activities:

  • Preventive Services Educational activities

Strategic Goal 4: Effective and efficient GMU operations systems (Academic, administrative, and financial)

Objectives:

4.1. Advance the GMU Governance structure to align with global best practices

Activities:

  • Involve in policy development and periodic review of university level quality assurance process.

4.2. Strengthen the monitoring, evaluation, and risk management mechanisms, with periodic reporting.

Activities:

  • Monitor the Stability of Admission to all the Nursing Programs
  • Monitor attrition rate
  • Monitor low grades and students with CGPA less than 2
  • Monitor faculty turnover rate

4.3. Strengthen the administration processes for efficient and effective management in the areas of registration, finance, procurement, contracts follow-up, audit system, HR, legal, IT services, Laboratory, Health & safety, and common services.

Activities:

  • Implementation of Folio

4.4. Develop a comprehensive and effective marketing plan to promote the university’s mission, vision, and values.

Activities:

  • Develop a comprehensive and effective marketing plan to promote the visibility of the college

4.5. Establish GMU data governance framework to ensure up-to-date, accurate, and consistent timely information drive the decision-making.

Activities:

  • Ensure reporting the Data by the CoN which is maintained by the QA&IE, Registrar, Accounts, Exam Office, Folio 360

4.6. Ensure stakeholders are engaged and satisfied with institutional effectiveness.

Activities:

  • Ensure stakeholder satisfaction by enhancing CoN effectiveness through annual planning meetings and campus recruitment activities.

Strategic Goal 5: Foster an enriching student experience and promote student success.

Objectives:

5.1. Provide a supportive learning environment with dedicated faculty

Activities:

  • Provide continuous support to students through the mentorship program and Student Happiness Center

5.2. Provide extracurricular activities that foster student growth and development.

Activities:

  • Continue to conduct extracurricular activities through Student Happiness Center and Student Nurses Club (SNC)

5.3. Increase student and alumni engagement, belonging, and loyalty by creating meaningful opportunities for their involvement and collaboration.

Activities:

  • Plan Career advising sessions to be conducted by CON alumni to share their knowledge and expertise with undergraduate students.
  • Alumni Summit
  • Continue to include students in the college committees
  • Initiate job fairs and networking events to help students prepare for the workforce.
  • Continue to conduct annual GMU Alumni Summit

5.4. Develop student leadership skills through service-learning and volunteer opportunities.

Activities:

  • Continue to conduct Peer mentoring sessions for all the programs
  • Establish Leadership training short course for students

5.5. Utilize technology to create interactive and engaging learning experiences.

Activities:

  • Offer professional development opportunities to faculty to help them integrate technology into the classroom effectively.

Strategic Goal 6: Increase the university’s physical capacity to respond to GMU growth and become a leading green university in the region.

Objectives:

6.1. Expand the university’s physical capacity to accommodate academic growth.

Activities:

  • Invest in additional equipment and resources to support the growing number of students using the Skills Lab.
  • Increase the number of faculty office rooms to accommodate the growing number of faculty members.
  • Increase the library’s collection of books, journals, and other resources to meet the needs of the growing student population

6.2. Upgrade the IT infrastructure and equipment to provide high-speed internet access, improve the quality of online instruction, and support learning resources for face-to-face and online education programs where pedagogically appropriate and feasible.

Activities:

  • Upgrade/replace outdated PCs as well as AV setups in different facilities
  • Implement a waste reduction program

6.3. Enhance policies and procedures to encourage green initiatives.

Strategic Goal 7: Emphasize the importance of community engagement/ social accountability across all operations.

Objectives:

7.1. Broaden GMU’s community engagement directions to include SDGs priorities in collaboration with the government, NGOs to serve the local community, and less privileged groups.

Activities:

  • Implement effective interprofessional planning and promotion of community engagement programs for various cohorts at CoN and promote university level engagement programs by including targeted activities for schools, working-class population, pregnant mothers and others.
  • Create an operational plan of CoN to engage prioritized stakeholders and collaborate with Nursing Service Department of Thumbay Group with an emphasis on community engagement and social accountability.
  • Utilize the social media of college, TV Channel/Newspaper to increase public awareness of Community engagement activities and disseminate information conducted by the college and university.

7.2. Strengthen effective local, regional, and international partnerships in strategic areas (e.g., MoUs), and develop a comprehensive monitoring and evaluation system for MoUs to ensure that all partners fulfil their obligations.

Activities:

  • Establish national-level Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with Emirate Nurses Association and engage in inter-university activities to strengthen local, regional, GCC country institutions and international partnerships in strategic areas.

7.3. Provide health, education, and sports services for the local community.

Activities:

  • Develop health programs that address the identified priorities
  • Organize sports events and competitions to promote community engagement
