Q1. When does admission starts and when is the deadline?

Q2. What are the criteria to follow enable for an applicant to qualify?
It depends on the curriculum you are studying; but the general criteria set a minimum of 90% for Medicine, 85% for Dentistry and Pharmacy and 70% in all the other programs. Completion of science subjects (Physics, Chemistry and Biology) is mandatory (Criteria for other curriculum (British, American, Nigerian etc.) will be translated accordingly)
Q3. Do I have to submit TOEFL / IELTS even if I am an American, British, Canadian national?
All have to complete English proficiency (EmSAT/IELTS/TOEFL) irrespective of nationality. Only native speakers are exempted. Conditional admission will be allowed for not achieving Arabic Language EmSAT score but not for English language.
Q4. Do I need to take the SAT examinations?
Only applicants who studied the American curriculum are required to take the SAT Maths for equivalency certificate and SAT II Biology (SAT – Molecular) and must obtain a minimum score of 550 enable to qualify for Medicine.
Q5. Do we need to pay anything in order for us to start the admission process?
Applicants have to apply online in our official website at www.gmu.ac.ae; and start the admissions process completing the application form. An application fee of AED 200 (non-refundable) is mandatory for submitting your application. Non-refundable evaluation fee is also required to be paid before interview
In case you find difficulty in uploading the documents you may, however, directly send us scanned copy of your documents through email.
Q6. When would we know if we are eligible for the program / course we are applying for?
Upon receipt of your application with your documents, the same will be forwarded to the Admissions Committee for evaluation; if found eligible, you will be informed by mail from the admission officer of the next admission step. Unsuccessful applicants will also be notified accordingly.
Q7. What is a Conduct Certificate and where can I get it?
A conduct certificate or Good Moral Character Certificate is a letter from your school certifying or declaring your attitude as a student. Some schools may call it testimonials or character reference letter. You may ask your teachers / principals / counselors to issue the letter for college / higher education application purposes.
Q8. Now that I am eligible for the program after the evaluation of my documents, what is the next step?
All eligible applicants shall take the admission test. Admissions test includes MCQ’s from Biology. Chemistry, Physics and Math’s from portions of Grade 10,11 and 12 or submit EmSAT equivalent scores as mentioned in specific program admission criteria. Passing admission test applicant shall appear for a face-to-face interview. Applicant shall be evaluated for cognitive and non-cognitive traits demonstrating their aptitude delivered online or onsite. [link]
Q9. Does the University provide scholarships or discounts?
GMU provides merit discounts for first year. Please review details on the website https://gmu.ac.ae/scholarships/
Q10. Can I appear for the assessment test without the TOEFL / IELTS /EmSAT result?
Not recommended. But selection is done on conditional basis and applicant is given time to complete the English requirement. Applicant is required to complete the English requirement before registration.
Q11. Where and when can I register for the TOEFL / IELTS / EmSAT examination?
Applicants are advised to register for the IBT (Internet based) TOEFL in any accredited TOEFL center in UAE or your home country; IELTS examination with the British Council testing center. GMU is also the testing center where you can register for IELTS.
Q12. Do you accept students for the spring semester?
Admissions for all programs are annual entry starting FALL (September). But we do open admissions in Spring (January) for certain programs like Pharmacy / Healthcare Management.
Q13. What are subjects for the admission test?
Admissions test includes Part 1: MCQ’s from Biology. Chemistry, Physics and Maths from portions of Grade 10,11 and 12.
Q14. Do you have any sample questions or test booklets we can review on?
Few reference portions: Biology: all body systems like Cardiovascular, Respiratory, Reproductive, etc. structure and their functions, Life process, Control and Coordination Heredity Evolution, Environment etc.; Chemistry: Acid-Base Reactions, Carbon compounds, Elements, Periodic Table, etc.; Physics: Electricity, Light reflection – refraction, sources of energy, magnetic effects of electric current, sources of energy, etc.
Part 2: Multiple mini interview evaluates mainly in the domains of honesty, professionalism, communication skill, problem-solving skill, cultural diversity, ethical issues, health problems faced, etc.
(Sample test – A 12-year old boy is diagnosed with a terminal illness He asked the doctor about his illness. His parents requested the doctor not to tell him the bad news. What should the doctor do in this situation?)
Q15. When and how can we know if we passed the assessment test?
After the interview, you will be notified by receiving an email about the result of the assessment test. Successful applicants will be given a Provisional Offer Letter and Acceptance Form wherein you have to comply with rest of the admission requirements.
Q16. When can we pay the tuition fee?
Upon receipt of the Provisional Offer Letter, you will be given a minimum of 2 -4 weeks’ time to pay the tuition fees.
Q17. Do you have any option of paying the tuition fees in instalments?
No. Policy states (as mentioned in the application form) a one-time payment option for all the programs. However, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Health Sciences, Biomedical and Healthcare Management applicants have merit discounts and also instalments facility. No instalment or discounts is offered in Medicine program.
Q18. What is an Equivalency Certificate and where can we get it?
An Equivalency Certificate is a document issued by the Ministry of Education (UAE) for local and international students who will pursue their higher education (College or University). This is an equalization of the student’s academic curriculum against UAE educational system. Students who studied abroad and some of the private school students in the UAE are required to obtain this document. Students may apply for the equivalency certificate in the Ministry of Education (UAE) after the attestation of their transcripts.
Students who studied under UAE Government Schools are exempted from obtaining this document.
Q19. Do we need to attest all our documents?
Only transcripts / mark sheets are required to be attested.
Q20. Where can we do the attestation of transcripts?
(a.) Applicants studied abroad are advised to get their attestation from the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and UAE Embassy of the country where they studied high school.
In UAE, students from outside the country are required attest their original school documents from Ministry of Foreign Affairs before submitting their application to the Ministry of Education in UAE.
(b.) Applicants from UAE are advised to get their attestation from the Ministry of Education (according to respective educational zones).
Q21. How do I apply for transfer?
For the transfer, applicant is required to send the high school certificate, official transcripts of the courses completed and the course content or syllabi of the courses completed in the previous Institution for evaluation. The applicant is required to apply online for transfer.
Q22. Does GMU provide visa / hostel facilities for the student?
Yes. GMU do provide visas as per the rules of the Ministry regulations. Students under GMU visa (or whosever sponsorship) are not permitted to work.
We have a hostel facility (located outside the GMU campus) for both male and female separately with free transport to and from the campus. Hostel provides full time Warden, security and Wifi facilities.
Q23. Does GMU have transport facilities?
Yes. However, transportation services are outsourced and services provided to Ajman, Sharjah, Dubai and Ras Al Khaimah. Students are required to fill in the request and submit to the Transport department. Contact: Mr. Nasrullah – 0543637999 (Sharjah/ Ajman / RAK) I Mr. Faizal -0563141269 (DUBAT)
Q24. Do we provide pickup and drop for Hostel students?
Hostel Students are provided with transportation free to and from the university.
During summer/winter break we do provide airport pickup and drop for the registered enrolled students.
Q25. When is the deadline for all the admission requirements?
Students are advised to complete their admission requirement on or before August 15 or two weeks before the commencement of classes.
Q26. When are the classes going to start?
Commencement of classes is usually in the last week of August or first week of September for every academic year. Confirmation of the date will be informed accordingly.
Q27. Can I send my credentials in Arabic language or it is mandatory to send English translation?
Credentials should be submitted in English but in certain cases initially Arabic documents can also be accepted but in the later stage legal English translation should also be provided.
Q28. Do you cover medical insurance for the students or they have to pay when they visit hospital?
Thumbay hospitals provide treatment to GMU students. GMU students are provided discounted rates at Thumbay Hospitals. Students are required to submit their ID cards on visit
Q29. What are the other facilities for students in the campus?
Food facility
A multi-cuisine restaurant chain, Thumbay Food court and Blends and Brews Coffee Shoppe are part of the Leisure & Hospitality Division of the Thumbay Group, U.A.E. The flagship outlet is located next to Gulf Medical University campus, Ajman with a spacious seating capacity. Special packages are available for GMU students and delivery is provided to hostel students. Facility provided to all our students with discounted rates.
Parking facilities
GMU has separate parking facilities for Male and Female students. Parking facilities are provided even during summer break upon approval from Student Affairs.
Wellness facility
