Vice Chancellor Research
Director TRIPM

Our goal at Gulf Medical University (GMU) is to be a leading research university and to be a national model for medical education in the region by integrating innovation with interdisciplinary research and scientific excellence. Importantly, GMU recognizes that academic teaching and quality research go hand in hand.

The research infrastructure available at GMU is designed to support all its research activities. In addition to the laboratories available in the colleges, the Thumbay Research Institute for Precision Medicine (TRIPM) constitutes the largest infrastructure for basic and translational research at GMU. TRIPM is a vibrant and active multidisciplinary institute devoted to conducting, supporting, and encouraging translational research. We have launched recently a new zebrafish facility that will allow TRIPM researchers to conduct their ongoing projects in an ideal and key model for understanding cancer biology and that is instrumental to carry out challenging research programs. To contribute to mechanisms which would transform research breakthroughs into innovative products, research teams at GMU work in partnership with national and international institutions to achieve excellence towards producing high quality research.

To promote partnerships relating to research and training with national, regional, and other international research organizations, universities, hospitals, and companies. GMU organizes scientific events to foster interactions between scientists from academia and industry and involve a multidisciplinary approach by basic scientists, clinicians, and epidemiologists.

The research focus of GMU is based on the major strategic goal to benefit the UAE and the region to achieve advancement in the field of:

  • Cancer
  • Diabetes
  • Public Health
  • Infectious Diseases (COVID-19)
  • Health Professions Education
