Alumni Summit Reports

On January 19, 2025, GMU hosted the Alumni Summit at the Grand Hyatt, Dubai, a memorable evening dedicated to celebrating the achievements of our alumni who have brought immense pride to their alma mater. The event was a perfect blend of recognition, inspiration, and camaraderie, showcasing the extraordinary journeys of nursing graduates and fostering meaningful connections within the GMU community.

The evening unfolded with much enthusiasm as the spotlight was placed on alumni who have made significant contributions to their fields. Ms. Dana Mohammed, Registered Nurse at Um Al Quwain Hospital, was honored for her voluntary and humanitarian services in Gaza, a testament to her selflessness and dedication. Ms. Balqees Naseer Khan, Charge Nurse in the Adult ICU at Al Qassimi Hospital, Sharjah, was celebrated for her exceptional leadership and 20 years of unwavering commitment to healthcare administration. Ms. Heba Faisal Omar, Program and Operations Manager at Manzil Health Services, Dubai, was recognized for her groundbreaking contributions to healthcare research and operational excellence.

A key highlight of the evening was the panel discussion led by Ms. Heba Faisal Omar, who shared her invaluable insights and experiences from her illustrious 14-year career. Her perspectives on healthcare innovation left a lasting impression on attendees, igniting a renewed sense of purpose and ambition. The event also celebrated the accomplishments of Ms. Imane Mohamed Darraj, Nurse Leader at Al Hamidiya Primary Health Center, whose 32 years of service have left an indelible mark on the healthcare sector.

The Alumni Summit 2025 was led under the guidance of the Founder President of GMU, Dr. Thumbay Moideen, whose visionary leadership has been instrumental in shaping the university’s legacy of excellence. The event was meticulously organized under the guidance of the Alumni Office, ensuring every aspect reflected the spirit of GMU’s commitment to its graduates. Nursing graduates shined in their own fields of expertise and contribution.

The Alumni Summit 2025 was a resounding success, bringing together alumni, industry leaders, and students in an engaging and celebratory atmosphere. The event underscored the significant role GMU alumni play in advancing healthcare and exemplified the university’s commitment to nurturing leaders who make a difference in their communities. It was a night filled with moments of pride, inspiration, and the rekindling of lifelong bonds, embodying the theme of the summit: Reflect. Reignite. Reunite.

With a legacy of excellence and a vibrant alumni network, GMU continues to shine as a beacon of growth and innovation in healthcare education. The summit was not just a celebration but a reaffirmation of the enduring spirit of GMU’s graduates who continue to inspire and lead by example.

Gulf Medical University (GMU), Ajman recognized the most outstanding accomplishments of its alumni at the ‘GMU Alumni Summit 2024’ held at Marriot Hotel, Al Jaddaf, Dubai on 20th January 2024.

The event brought together GMU alumni from around the world, joined by the academic leadership of GMU, faculty, staff and students, in a celebration of the significant contributions, determination and hard work of our Alumni to their professions and the community at large.

Dr. Thumbay Moideen, Founder President and Chairman of Board of Governors, GMU, who was the Chief Guest at the Summit, felicitated the winners. The College of Nursing Alumni took this great opportunity to network with our Alumni, share their success stories and challenges they faced along the journey that will serve as an inspiration to the present students. This event also served as an occasion to appreciate the Distinguished Achievers in the category “Leadership” and “Community Services”. The Event was attended by 19 Alumni from both BSN and RN-BSN programs.

Ms. Judith Chidhimma Nnadi, from 2016 BSN Cohort was chosen for the Distinguished Alumni Award for Community Service acknowledging her experience,  sincerity and passion working as a Senior Registered Midwife in Medcare Hospital, Dubai.

Ms. Taghreed Bochor from 2020 RNBSN Cohort received Distinguished Alumni Award in “Research”, appreciating her achievements in innovation, research and evidence-based practice in thalassemia care and rheumatology units at Ibrahim Bin Hamad Obaidullah Hospital, Ras Al Khaimmah.

Ms Huda Ali Mohamed from 2021 RNBSN Cohort was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award for Leadership acknowledging her achievements as a Team Leader in Orthopedic department of Fujairah Hospital.

Ms Krishnaveni Selvaraj from 2016 BSN batch was felicitated for serving as an Alumni board member representing College of Nursing and her active participation in all Alumni meetings and events organized.

The Alumni Summit at Gulf Medical University was a resounding success, underscoring the university’s commitment to nurturing and celebrating the achievements of alumni. The recipients of the Distinguished Alumni Awards serve as inspirations to current and future nursing students, illustrating the diverse paths and significant impact of a nurse graduate from Gulf Medical University.

‘GMU Alumni Summit 2022’ was organized by the Alumni Association, GMU to recognize the most outstanding accomplishments of its alumni. The event was held at Shangri-La Hotel, Dubai on 28th November 2022.

The event brought together GMU alumni from around the world, joined by the academic leadership of GMU, faculty, staff and students, in a celebration of the significant contributions, determination and hard work of our Alumni front liners to their professions and the community at large.

The College of Nursing Alumni took this great opportunity to network with our Alumni, share their success stories and challenges they faced along the journey that will serve as an inspiration to the present students. This event also served as an occasion to appreciate the Distinguished Achievers in the category “Leadership” and “Community Services”. The Event was attended by 16 Alumni from both BSN and RN-BSN programs.

Ms. Imane Mohamed Darraj, from 2018 RNBSN Fall Batch was chosen for the Distinguished Alumni Achiever in “Leadership” acknowledging her achievements as a Nurse Leader at Al Hamidiya Primary Health Center, Ajman.

Ms. Nada Ali Haj, from 2018 RNBSN received Distinguished Alumni Achiever in “Research” appreciating her achievements as is a Lactation Consultant who was involved in several research in the field of lactation psychology and its socio-cultural aspects at Musherif Health Center, Ajman.

Ms. Mini Balakrishnan, from 2018 RNBSN Batch working as a Registered Nurse in Al Hamidiya Primary Health Center Ajman was chosen for Distinguished Alumni Achiever in “Community Service”. She has more than 15 years of experience in various hospitals in the UAE and has many appreciation certificates and awards to her credit.

Dr. Akbar Moideen Thumbay, Vice-President of the Healthcare Division of Thumbay Group and member of the ‘Thumbay Group Board, who was the Chief Guest at the Summit, felicitated the winners along with Prof. Hossam Hamdy, Chancellor, GMU.

Ms. Jane Francis from BSN Program 2017 Batch participated in an interprofessional Panel Discussion and shared the highs and lows in her career journey and how College of Nursing, GMU has played an instrumental role in shaping her personality and confidence in herself.

College of Nursing is proud of its all Alumni and their achievements. This Summit provided an opportunity to reunite and cherish all the joy and wonderful moments spent together. GMU Alumni Society was established to promote and support activities that connect alumni to each other, connect alumni to the college, and connect students and alumni. Alumni Chapters were established in US, UK, Canada, Germany and Australia, also for the above purpose.

Ms. Khadija Abdullah Amiri from 2018 RNBSN Fall Batch was chosen for the Distinguished Alumni Achiever in “Leadership” acknowledging her achievements in role of Unit Manager in Al Qassimi Women & Children’s Hospital, Sharjah.

Ms. Lina Hussain Khalil from 2018 RNBSN Spring Batch received Distinguished Alumni Achiever in “Leadership” appreciating her achievements as Charge Nurse Operation theatre in Dubai Hospital.

Ms. Rajeswary Mohanan 2018 RNBSN Fall Batch was chosen for Distinguished Alumni Achiever in “Community Service” for her enormous and tireless contributions as a COVID response nurse for the Emergency Response Team, SEHA (Abu Dhabi) when the pandemic was at its peak in 2020-2021.

The event recognized their most outstanding achievements. The awards in honor of the GMU Achievers were presented by Dr. Thumbay Moideen, Founder, President Board of Trustees, GMU who also officially released the Alumni E-newsletter and the Alumni Portal.
