Breast Cancer Awareness Program

College of Nursing, Gulf Medical University has conducted a ‘Breast Cancer Awareness program’ on 18th October 2018 from 10 AM to 1 PM to celebrate the Breast Cancer Awareness month. The program aimed to promote the importance of ‘Early detection and Treatment’ of breast cancer. Activities were planned for spreading awareness among students, faculty and staff of Gulf Medical University.

Posters on various aspects of Breast Cancer like signs & symptoms, diagnosis, treatment modalities, post-mastectomy rehabilitation were presented in the Main Foyer of GMU. Nursing Students from Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 were involved in a poster presentation.

Student volunteers guided female students, faculty and staff from the main foyer to Lecture 15 where a ‘female only’ station was arranged. A video demonstration regarding self-breast examination was shown. And a hands-on session demonstrating the palpation technique was taught to the attendees with the help of manikins.

This station was handled by Year 4 Nursing students. The attendees re-demonstrated the technique and were able to identify abnormalities on the manikins. Around 84 female students, faculty and staff benefitted from the station and gave encouraging feedback to the student and faculty volunteers.
