Dean’s Message

Dr. Selva Titus Chacko
Dean, College of Nursing

It is my honour and privilege to welcome you to the College of Nursing at Gulf Medical University.

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing program was first launched in 2014 under the College of Health Sciences and, with its rapid success, the College of Nursing was established as an independent entity in 2018. In less than a decade, the College has grown remarkably, earning a strong reputation both in the UAE and internationally.

At present, we offer two undergraduate pathways: A four-year BSN program for high school graduates. & a bridging program for registered nurses with a diploma in nursing.

In line with national healthcare priorities, the College introduced its first graduate program—the Master of Science in Neonatal Nursing—in 2024. Building on this foundation, two additional Master’s programs, in Adult Critical Care Nursing and Renal & Dialysis Nursing, are in development. Each program will also provide a postgraduate diploma exit option after the first year, offering flexible opportunities that directly respond to the growing demand for specialized nurses in the region.

The College of Nursing forms an integral part of GMU’s Academic Health System, which brings together medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, health sciences, management and AI in healthcare, research institutes, and an extensive network of hospitals and medical centers across Ajman, Dubai, Sharjah, Fujairah, and Umm Al Quwain. This interconnected system provides an ideal environment for interprofessional education, collaborative research, and experiential learning, ensuring our students are fully prepared to meet real-world healthcare challenges.

Adding to this strength, GMU is a truly multicultural university, welcoming students from over 96 countries and faculty from more than 35 nationalities. This diversity enriches the academic experience, enhances cultural competence, and prepares graduates to thrive in diverse healthcare settings worldwide.

Our philosophy emphasizes active engagement—with students, practicing nurses, healthcare institutions, and the wider community. We are committed to providing high-quality education, advancing nursing through scholarship, and promoting the health and well-being of society. Our competency-based curricula are benchmarked against international standards and supported by innovative, technology-enhanced approaches—including AI-enabled learning tools—that foster critical thinking, self-directed learning, and lifelong professional growth.

A hallmark of the College is access to world-class clinical training facilities, including JCI-accredited Thumbay group of hospitals & speciality clinics, MoH, DH & SKMCA hospitals, the Thumbay Institute of Clinical Simulation and Skills (TICSS). These facilities provide students with exceptional clinical exposure, bridging theory with practice, and preparing them to achieve the highest learning outcomes and excel in today’s competitive job market.

Nursing continues to be one of the most in-demand professions globally, driven by patient- and family-centered care, demographic changes, and the pressing need for skilled professionals. At GMU, our distinguished faculty and clinical partners are dedicated to preparing students for these evolving healthcare challenges, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and values to make a meaningful difference.

The College also works closely with health regulatory authorities and has established collaborations with international academic institutions. We are actively pursuing international accreditation with ACEN, further strengthening our global recognition and ensuring our graduates are well-prepared for international career opportunities.

In a short span of time, the College of Nursing has established itself not only as a center of excellence in education but also as a hub for professional development, research, and healthcare innovation. Choosing a career in nursing at Gulf Medical University means joining a future-focused, dynamic profession where you will truly make a difference.
