Dr. Shubhankar Das

Senior Research Scientist

Dr. Shubhankar Das is currently a Senior Research Scientist at TRIPM, Gulf Medical University. Prior to this, he was a postdoctoral fellow at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel, spending a year each in the laboratories of Prof. Zvulun Elazar and Prof. Sima Lev. He gained training and experience in autophagy, specifically understanding the activities of human Atg8 proteins, as well as cancer biology, where he explored the significance of genetic drivers of ferroptosis in the treatment of triple-negative breast cancer. Shubhankar previously earned his PhD degree from the School of Life Sciences, Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), India, where he examined the influence of ionizing radiation and xenobiotics on mitochondrial function. Shubhankar has 15 research papers in peer-reviewed journals. He has received various accolades for his research work, including the Dr. TMA Pai Gold Medal for Outstanding Research Publication-2020 from MAHE, and the Young Investigator Award from SFRR-Europe at the OCC/SFRR-E 2017 Annual Conference in Berlin, Germany. His postdoctoral tenure was supported by the coveted Dean of Faculty scholarship awarded by the Weizmann Institute of Science. Shubhankar has over eight years of research experience, specializing in radiation biology, toxicology, mitochondrial biology, ferroptosis, and autophagy. He is especially interested in cancer biology research, specifically understanding the biology of aggressive tumors such as pancreatic and breast cancer, as well as in identifying new therapeutic targets against them.
