Dr. Ponchitra Ramanathan is a distinguished nursing academician and researcher with a career spanning over two decades. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Dr. MGR Medical University (1997), Master’s degree in Medical-Surgical Nursing (2009), and was awarded a Ph.D. in Nursing (2019).

Her academic credentials also include Master of Arts in sociology, Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resource Management (PGDM-HR) and a FAIMER fellowship. Her qualifications reflect a unique blend of clinical, administrative, sociological, and educational perspectives essential to contemporary nursing leadership.

Throughout her career, Dr. Ponchitra has held progressive academic and leadership positions from tutor, lecturer, Associate Professor and Professor Cum Vice principal. Her contributions to nursing education are marked by her active involvement in curriculum development, clinical instruction, academic administration, and faculty mentorship. She has been instrumental in the coordination of M.Sc. Nurse Practitioner in Critical Care (NPCC) program, where she led initiatives in curriculum design, outcome-based evaluation, and competency-driven education models. As a part of dual responsibility of nursing service and education she has contributed in development of Protocols and SOPs relevant to hospital accreditation(NABH)

Dr. Ponchitra has actively contributed to faculty development, institutional accreditation (NAAC, NABH, QS I-Gauge), and internal quality assurance. She has held positions as Chairperson Board of Studies, Ethical Committee, Member of Academic Council and Incharge of NAAC Criteria. She has led curriculum mapping, designed outcome-based modules, and mentored undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral students. Her scholarly interests lie in critical care nursing, research methodology, quality education, and faculty development. She has received multiple recognitions as a reviewer, panel expert, and workshop facilitator, and has secured ICMR grants for national-level academic events.

A prolific researcher, Dr. Ponchitra has authored over 40 publications in national and international journals, with ongoing contributions in critical care, nursing education, and public health. She has guided PG Dissertation, PhD thesis, served on ethics and scientific advisory boards, and engaged as a resource person across national forums. Her clinical foundation includes experience in Accident & Emergency and pediatric care in Oman, which complements her academic insight with practical expertise in hospital operations, patient safety, and quality improvement.
