Dr. Mary Walton is an Assistant Professor of Medical Surgical Nursing at the College of Nursing, Gulf Medical University (GMU), Ajman, UAE, where she has been a faculty member since 2021. Dr. Mary Walton is an accomplished nurse academic and researcher with over three decades of experience in clinical nursing and higher education. Her career has been marked by a strong commitment to nursing education, research, and professional development.
Dr. Mary Walton was awarded her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai, India in 1992. She completed her Master’s in Medical Surgical Nursing from, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore, India, in 2007.
Dr. Mary Walton was awarded her PhD in Nursing Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore, India in collaboration with the Indian Nursing Council, National Consortium for PhD Nursing, New Delhi, India in 2020. Her dissertation focused on a qualitative study on “Lived experience of adult female cancer survivors to discover common protective resilience factors to cope with cancer experience and to identify potential barriers to resilience.” This significant work was published in the Indian Journal of Palliative Care and has contributed meaningfully to the understanding of psychosocial aspects and resilience in cancer survivorship. She was awarded with the Best Research Paper Award for her impactful study titled “Effectiveness of High Iron Mix on Hemoglobin Status of Adolescent Girls,” presented in Chennai in 2014. Recipient of the ISSN-International Research Awards and Congress 2024, India, in recognition of her outstanding contributions to research in oncology nursing.
She was awarded a Fellowship by examination for Nursing & Midwifery from the Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland in December 2024.
