Dr. Leah Macaden is a globally recognized academic and nursing leader with specialized expertise in dementia care, gerontological nursing, and health professions education. She currently serves as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Edinburgh and an Honorary Consultant in Dementia with NHS Lothian.
Her academic and professional qualifications include a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, a Master of Science in Nursing from CMC, Vellore, India, and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, UK. She is also a Senior Fellow of Advance HE (SFHEA), National Teaching Fellow (NTF), Churchill Fellow (CF), Certified Global Nurse Consultant (CGNC) from CGFNS International, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN)—recognitions that underscore her leadership and influence in global nursing practice.
Dr. Macaden is widely acclaimed for her innovation in nursing education, workforce development, and person-cantered dementia care. She has led and contributed to over 20 funded projects, supervised numerous PhD candidates on global nursing and health topics, and published extensively in peer-reviewed journals. Her work champions dignity, human rights, and technology-enabled care.
In recognition of her contributions, she was named a Certified Global Nurse Consultant by CGFNS International and a Finalist for Supervisor of the Year by the Edinburgh University Students’ Association in 2024.
