Virginia Commonwealth University PharmD Students are being exposed to UAE Pharmacy Sector

On April 4th, 2025, along with GMU preceptors, Valeria (Val) Galemba and Allison Gallagher, PharmD candidates from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), visited three key healthcare institutions collaborated with Gulf Medical University, providing them with practical insights into pharmacy practices in the region.

The Department of Health Poison and Drug Information Service, where they learned about the integrated poison and drug information services that are beining offered in Abu Dhabi and the whole UAE. Visit to Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, provided exposure to the integration of pharmacists in clinical settings, medication therapy management, and pharmacy operations covening multiple specialties. Also, vising Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City (SSMC) robotic pharmacy with advanced patient care and medication management services.

This rotation is part of GMU’s effort to provide VCU PharmD students with global exposure to diverse healthcare systems, equipping them with valuable experience in international pharmacy practices. Through this initiative, students enhance their understanding of UAE pharmacy health system and prepare for careers in a dynamic, interconnected healthcare landscape.
