Dean’s Message

The College of Pharmacy is part of an Academic Health System that includes pharmacy, medicine, dentistry, nursing, health sciences, research institutes as well as hospitals and medical centers in Ajman, Fujairah, Umm Al Quwain, Sharjah and Dubai. This comprehensive structure provides our students with an exceptional learning environment and a unique opportunity for inter-professional education where elements of learning from and with each other across all healthcare disciplines are greatly enhanced. It also provides a great opportunity for our faculty to work together and engage their students in multidisciplinary pharmaceutical sciences and pharmacy practice research.

Our College has a Doctor of Pharmacy “PharmD” entry-to-practice program and a Master in Clinical Pharmacy program that offers several areas of specialization including cardiology, infectious diseases and others.

Our PharmD program provides a balanced curriculum with a combination of general education, pharmaceutical sciences, pharmacy practice and experiential education courses in a context that emphasizes patient care, evidence based practice, professionalism and adherence to the highest level of ethical standards. Our Master in Clinical Pharmacy is a unique program where students choose specialty electives, a specialty rotation and a thesis all in the same chosen specialization.

The College has recently added two new labs: 1) Sterile Compounding Lab modeled after the clean room in Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi. This is the first of its kind in all colleges of Pharmacy in the UAE. 2) The Pharmacy Practice Lab with a model pharmacy, insurance and inventory software, patient counseling and drug information stations and a bedside clinical pharmacy setting.

Our students engage with their faculty mentors in pharmacy research projects where they learn hands-on and one on one. Students contribute to research topic selection, literature review, research design, data collection, analysis of results, writing posters and preparing oral presentations as well as presenting in local and international scientific meetings.

At the College of Pharmacy, we believe that pharmacy education and practice go hand in hand and we know that we have an obligation to partner with health care practitioners and policy makers to improve and widen the scope of practice in the pharmacy profession.

Over the years, the College of Pharmacy has developed key partnerships and clinical training agreements with numerous healthcare facilities and pharmaceutical industries across UAE. The training our students receive with our partner institutions is an integral and essential part of the PharmD curriculum that prepares them as they move on to join their fellow pharmacists in the profession and serve their patients as pharmacy practitioners.

We have recently developed international partnerships and affiliations with leading colleges of pharmacy around the world.  These partnerships will provide opportunities for our students to spend part of their internship training abroad and receive first hand exposure to advanced health care practice in an international environment.

We believe that these partnerships will provide a unique opportunity for our students to build their pharmacy skills, broaden their horizons and prepare them for an exciting career in pharmacy.
