On April 19, 2024, Ms. Sandra Fleku completed her one-month international rotation at GMU’s campus hospital. She was trained by GMU’s clinical pharmacy preceptors, especially in critical care and cardiology areas. In addition, Ms. Sandra visited a few other healthcare facilities to gain insight into the healthcare system in the UAE. She gave a final presentation to the faculty, preceptors, and students on what she observed as similarities and differences in US and UAE healthcare delivery.

Ms. Sandra said “I am honored to be able to share my experience as an APPE pharmacy intern at Gulf Medical University. The journey has been incredibly enriching and has helped to deepen my understanding of pharmacy practice. From the moment I arrived in the United Arab Emirates, I was greeted with warmth and support from the school’s faculty and hospital clinical pharmacists. Their willingness to mentor and guide me made me feel valued and motivated to make the most of this opportunity.”
The visit come under the well-established student exchange program between the Colleges of Pharmacy of Gulf Medical University and Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) which has been in place for many years and has led to enhancing the students’ experience as well as opening doors for GMU’s College of Pharmacy students to pursue their postgraduate studies in VCU.
