On Monday 20th of March, College of Pharmacy at the Gulf Medical University hosted a research webinar presented by Dr. Bahaa Mustafa, Assistant Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS).

Dr. Mustafa, holds an M.S. in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Petra University and a PhD from University of Missouri-Kansas City, and is a the recipient of a Fulbright Foreign Student Scholarship Award.
Webinar title: “Peptides Targeting CD47/SIRPα Pathway for Cancer Immunotherapy and Drug Delivery”
The webinar was attended by faculty members of the pharmaceutical sciences department and candidates of the Master of drug discovery and development.
During the seminar, Dr. Mustafa explained one of his research articles that focused on targeting the CD47/SIRPα pathway in-vitro and the implications of this on the response in-vivo to cancer chemotherapy via the discovery and development of peptide-based immune checkpoint inhibitors for cancer immunotherapy. He also explained the macrophage-evading polymeric nanoparticles for targeting drugs to enhance pharmacokinetics profile.
The seminar was followed by an insightful discussion about the possible ways of statistically correlating the results obtained from the different experiments. Dr. Mustafa’s research has the potential to contribute to the development of more effective and targeted therapies for cancer treatment.
