On December 5th, 2022, the College of Pharmacy at Gulf Medical University welcomed Dr. Alex Joseph, Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at Manipal Academy of Higher Education in Manipala, India, as the speaker for a seminar talk on “Multi-target drug discovery and design for complex diseases.”

During his presentation, Dr. Joseph discussed the potential benefits of multitarget ligands in drug development. These types of ligands have the ability to simultaneously target multiple pathways and mechanisms in the body, leading to a more comprehensive and multifaceted effect. “Multitarget ligands offer the potential to address the complex nature of many diseases and provide more effective treatments,” Dr. Joseph said.
He also emphasized the importance of further research in this area, as multitarget ligands represent a promising new direction in drug development. “There is still much to learn about the potential of multitarget ligands in the treatment of various diseases,” Dr. Joseph concluded.
The seminar was well attended by faculty members and the MDD students in the College of Pharmacy, who were interested in learning more about the latest developments in drug discovery and design for complex diseases.
