On 6th Feb 2020 GMU PharmD students participated in a career counseling session titled “Medical Affairs Team in A Pharmaceutical Company” as part of the ongoing weekly “Own Your Future Career” career counseling program conducted by the College of Pharmacy, GMU.

Dr. Mohamed Soliman, Regional Director of Medical Affairs at Astellas Pharma Japan led the session. Students were oriented on the various teams working under pharmaceutical companies with special emphasis on the Medical Affairs team. Dr. Soliman is also the therapy area lead for Transplantations and Infectious Diseases in International Markets & Greater China and a licensed pharmacist with over 16 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
During the session, Dr. Soliman discussed with students the roles and responsibilities of medical affairs personnel, the importance of integration within the pharmaceutical care teams, the career path required in the medical affairs field and an overview on what his week usually looks like in this career path. PharmD students from the various professional years participated in the career counseling discussion which was helpful to them as they explore future career opportunities available in the job market.
