On 17th October 2022, GMU Pharmacy Students’ Association (GPSA) in collaboration with the Centre for Advanced Simulation in Healthcare (CASH) organized an interactive event for World Restart a Heart Day. The aim of this event was to raise awareness of the important of Basic Life Support (BLS) and the steps of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Additionally, there were posters that illustrated the life-saving medications used during a cardiac arrest, their dosing regimens and when to use them.
The PharmD students, who are certified in BLS, performed a role play on the proper way to resuscitate a person who went into cardiac arrest. Next, the students took turns to perform CPR on manikins with corrections from a certified BLS provider. Finally a demo was given by Ms. Sandhya Arun, who is The CASH Training Manager, on the proper steps that bystanders should perform to save a life and provide proper CPR.
