On the 28th of February 2024, GPSA-UAE organized a special webinar in honour of World Epilepsy Day titled “Empowering Lives: The Role of Pharmacists in Epilepsy Management” with Dr Maya Zeineddine, lead of IVPN Neuropsychiatry listserv.
Dr Maya Zeineddine is a senior clinical pharmacist specializing in Neurology. With numerous publications to her name, she is a clinical associate professor at Lebanese American University and is also a PhD candidate in Neuro-epidemiology from Limoges University, France. She also works as the Research Manager at the Neurology Institute and Multiple Sclerosis Center in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
The objectives of the session included sharing a general overview of what epilepsy is as well as the latest practised guidelines in its treatment and management. Dr Maya emphasized the unique and indispensable role pharmacists play in epilepsy management.
Given that epilepsy is a chronic condition, pharmacists are crucial in ensuring the patient is adherent to their medications and is not at risk of suffering adverse events from the medications by going for regular monitoring and counselling.
The informative session concluded with an engaging Q&A session with the audience who were thoroughly attentive and impressed by Dr Maya’s expertise in the field.
