On January 25, 2025, the GMU Pharmacy Students Association (GPSA) and IFMSA-UAE and partnered with Manzil Healthcare Services to host an impactful Cervical Cancer Awareness Webinar in recognition of Cervical Cancer Awareness Month.
The session featured expert insights from Dr. Samah Elsaied, Specialist OBG at Fujairah Hospital and Lecturer at RAK Medical & Health Sciences University. Dr. Samah provided a comprehensive overview of cervical cancer, addressing key topics such as its epidemiology, risk factors, associated sexually transmitted diseases, pathogenesis, pathophysiology, clinical manifestations of HPV infection, diagnosis, screening methods including HPV testing and colposcopy examination, staging, treatment options, and preventive measures.

A key highlight of the webinar was the emphasis on early detection and prevention. Dr. Samah reinforced the critical role of HPV vaccination in reducing the risk of cervical cancer, stressing that protection extends beyond women to include men and entire families. As part of its Health Awareness Campaign, Manzil Healthcare Services, a licensed provider accredited by DOH, MOH, and DHA offered webinar participants access to HPV vaccines at a special discounted rate, including a consultation service. Attendees had the opportunity to express their interest in receiving the vaccine through an optional HPV Awareness and Prevention form, enabling Manzil to facilitate vaccination services at convenient locations, including university clinics and hospitals.

The interactive nature of the session kept participants engaged through multiple elements. A live Q&A allowed students to seek clarifications directly from Dr. Samah, while an open chat function enabled real-time queries. Polls conducted throughout the session encouraged active participation and knowledge retention. Adding a fun and competitive edge to the event, Nikita Sunil Binu, President of GPSA, organized a Kahoot quiz to assess students’ understanding of the subject matter, making learning both enjoyable and effective.
This collaborative initiative underscored the significance of cervical cancer awareness, early screening, and vaccination in safeguarding public health. It also highlighted GMU’s commitment to empowering future healthcare professionals with knowledge, engagement, and proactive health advocacy.
