On the 14th of November 2022, GMU Pharmacy Students Association celebrated World Diabetes Day in collaboration with Thumbay University Hospital (TUH). Patients received free Body Mass Index (BMI), blood glucose levels and blood pressure checkups. Additionally, GPSA members from the senior years students provided general counseling to the public regarding how to prevent diabetes by adopting a healthy lifestyle and, if they have diabetes, how to identify the signs and symptoms of high and low blood sugar. There was also an activity, where patients and students alike discussed and guessed good and bad sugar sources. Attendees also learned about diabetes through educational posters and flyers. TUH’s medical director, Dr. Fozi Dakilah, also visited GPSA booths and gave an encouraging speech regarding the importance of student community engagement in such an important global day.
