GMU-IVPN Student Club Conducts a Community Engagement Activity on STDs at JSS Private School in Dubai

On January 30th, 2025, the GMU-IVPN Student Club, under the College of Pharmacy, took a proactive step in public health education by conducting an informative awareness session on sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) for students in grades 9 & 11 at JSS Private School, Dubai.

This initiative aimed to educate young students about STDs, their prevention, and the importance of safe sexual health practices, fostering a culture of awareness and responsibility. The session was led by the GMU-IVPN club executive team, including Salama Alhammadi, Ananya Naik, Karina Grace Dsouza, and Ghina Baghdadi, under the supervision of their faculty advisor Dr. Ahmad El Ouweini, who worked collaboratively to ensure the students received accurate and engaging information on this critical health topic.

During the session, students learned about:

  • The most common STDs, their symptoms, and long-term health effects
  • Modes of transmission
  • Preventive measures, including safe practices
  • The importance of early diagnosis, treatment, and reducing stigma around STDs

The interactive session also included a Q&A segment, allowing students to ask questions in a comfortable and supportive environment. By addressing their concerns, the GMU-IVPN team helped clarify misconceptions and promote responsible health choices.

“Empowering students with accurate information is key to fostering responsible health choices,” said the GMU-IVPN executive team. “By creating an open and judgment-free space for discussion, we aim to break the stigma surrounding STDs and encourage proactive health behaviors among young individuals. Education is the first step toward prevention, and we are committed to ensuring that students have the knowledge they need to protect their health and well-being.”

The GMU-IVPN Student Club remains committed to community outreach and health education, ensuring that students across different age groups receive the necessary tools to lead healthier lives. Through such initiatives, the club continues to empower young individuals with the knowledge and confidence to make informed decisions about their well-being.
