GMU College of Pharmacy Marks a Strong Presence at the First Community Pharmacy Conference in Dubai

On April 26, 2025, The College of Pharmacy at Gulf Medical University (GMU) proudly contributed to the success of the First Community Pharmacy Conference, organized by IVPN-Network, and held at JW Marriott Marina, Dubai, UAE.

Highlighting GMU’s leadership, the Dean, Professor Muhammad Al-Shorbagy, was invited to chair one of the conference sessions titled “Sexual and Maternal Health, Baby Care, Respiratory Health, and Vaccination.”

Further underscoring GMU’s academic impact, Dr. Ahmad El Ouweini, Clinical Lecturer of Pharmacy Practice and Critical Care Clinical Pharmacist and Preceptor, played multiple prominent roles as a member of the Scientific Committee, Head of the Posters Review Committee, and a speaker. Dr. El Ouweini delivered an insightful presentation titled “Optimizing Acute and Chronic Pain: Risks and Benefits,” drawing considerable engagement from the audience.

Additionally, GMU PharmD students actively volunteered during the conference, assisting in the logistics of delegate registration and event photography. Their outstanding contribution was essential to ensuring the smooth flow and success of the conference proceedings.

Moreover, the excellence of Gulf Medical University – College of Pharmacy was further celebrated during the competitions held at the First Community Pharmacy Conference.

Dr. Ahmad El Ouweini, Clinical Lecturer and Critical Care Clinical Pharmacist and Preceptor, co-authored a scientific poster titled “Exploring the Impact of the IVPN Network on Healthcare Professionals’ Growth and Practice.” The poster impressed the scientific jury and was awarded Second Place among fifteen accepted posters during the conference’s Scientific Poster Competition.

In another remarkable achievement, GMU PharmD students Ghenwa Ghayad and Alhasan Alamin won the First Place Award in the Patient Counselling Competition. Their winning entry, supervised by Dr. Diana Malaeb, featured an exemplary video demonstrating a pharmacist-patient counselling session on the use of antidepressants, emphasizing both medication adherence and necessary lifestyle modifications to support mental health and alleviate depression.

These achievements are a testament to GMU’s commitment to excellence in pharmacy education, research, and professional development.
