GMU Pharmacy Students Association Members and GMU College of Pharmacy Faculty Lead Breast Cancer Awareness Community Engagement Event

On October 21st, GMU Pharmacy Students Association (GPSA-UAE), in collaboration with the GMU College of Pharmacy, held an impactful Breast Cancer Awareness event at Infinity Women Health Fitness Center. Year 4 PharmD students Shahad and Jude, both GPSA members volunteered to educate female gym-goers on performing breast self-examinations (BSE). The students were accompanied by faculty members Dr. Jisha M Lucca, Dr. Juny Sebastian, and Dr Naira, who contributed to the discussions and helped answer questions from visitors.

The focus of the event was to educate female gym-goers on how to perform a breast self-examination (BSE), an essential tool for early detection of breast cancer. The interactive session allowed the students to explain BSE and engage visitors by demonstrating the process on a mannequin.

Attendees were able to practice alongside the students, gaining hands-on experience and confidence in the technique. Pamphlets about BSE in both Arabic and English containing QR codes to book appointments in Thumbay University Hospital were also shared with the attendees.
