GMU College of Pharmacy Faculty and Interns Excel at the 21st Emirates Critical Care Conference in Dubai

The College of Pharmacy at Gulf Medical University proudly announces the distinguished participation of its faculty and students at the 21st Emirates Critical Care Conference (ECCC) held recently in Dubai. This internationally recognized event brought together leaders, researchers, and practitioners in intensive and critical care medicine from across the globe.

Representing GMU, Dr. Ahmad El Ouweini, Clinical Lecturer and Critical Care Clinical Pharmacist, was invited as a featured speaker and poster presenter. Dr. El Ouweini delivered a compelling talk on a controversial and timely topic:
“Balanced Crystalloids vs. Isotonic Saline in Critically Ill Adults”, sparking insightful discussions among multidisciplinary attendees.

In addition, Dr. El Ouweini co-authored and presented two scientific posters in collaboration with GMU’s ICU pharmacy and medical interns:

  • “Wernicke Encephalopathy Presenting with Severe Pancytopenia: A Rare Clinical Association”
  • “Recurrent Pulmonary Edema and Cardiovascular Collapse in a Non-Compliant Dialysis Patient with Severe Aortic Regurgitation: A Clinical Challenge”

A moment of special pride came as the poster on Wernicke Encephalopathy—co-authored by GMU PharmD students Jafrin Sadiq Abdul Razack and Sarah Elkhawagawon First Place in the Student Poster Competition.

The College of Pharmacy extends its congratulations to all involved and looks forward to future engagements, including the potential launch of a dedicated Critical Care Pharmacotherapy Track at upcoming conferences.
