Dr. Shabaz Mohiuddin Gulam presented his work on the ‘Potential to Strengthen the Antimicrobial Stewardship Efforts by Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) Students in a Tertiary Care Hospital in the United Arab Emirates’ at the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting 2023 happening at Anaheim, California, United States of America. Prospective audit and feedback is one of the two strongly recommended interventions by the IDSA for Antimicrobial Stewardship. However, Prospective audit and feedback has a major drawback of being more resource intensive. Dr. Shabaz presented his work on the involvement of APPE students in the prospective audits to tackle one of its major limitations.
Dr. Shabaz commented: During my ASHP presentation, I highlighted APPE students’ vital role in mitigating the resource-intensive nature of prospective audit and feedback in Antimicrobial Stewardship. Their involvement not only addresses a significant limitation but also enriches their educational experience and contributes to a dynamic, collaborative healthcare environment.
