College of Pharmacy Career Counseling Seminar “A Primer on Pharmacogenetics and Clinical Implementation”

On 8th March 2021, College of Pharmacy, Gulf Medical University hosted a career counseling session with the title “A Primer on Pharmacogenetics and Clinical Implementation”. The session was addressed to PharmD students along with students of Master of Drug Discovery and development and Master of Clinical Pharmacy as part of ongoing career talk series in the “Own Your Future” program organized by the college of pharmacy student happiness center.

The session was introduced by Dr. Nihal El Roubby, Pharm.D, PhD, BCPS, Clinical Assistant Professor at University of Cincinnati, USA. During the session, Dr. Nihal Shared with the students her Career path in field of clinical pharmacy in USA starting as community pharmacist, PharmD and PhD students.  Dr. Nehal followed her talk by introduction to basics of pharmacogenetics and application of her research pharmacogenetics in direct patient care as part of her practice in university of Cincinnati, USA.  At the end of the sessions, Dr. Nihal answered the students’ questions about the future application of pharmacogenetics in patient care.

Fawaz Adebayo Abdulazeez APPE intern final year PharmD student reflected on the session “The session with Dr. Nehal was very educational and it was eye-opening. Dr. Nehal was able to re-spark an interest in Pharmacogenetics and genomics. I believe many students will be more curious about this field and develop an interest in pursuing it taking inspiration from our speaker. “
