On Monday, October 24th, the College of Pharmacy and candidates of the master in drug discovery and development had a faculty research seminar presented by Dr. Mohammad Askandar Iqbal. Dr. Iqbal holds a PhD in biochemistry from Jawaharlal Nehru university in New Delhi, India followed by postdoctoral training at MD Anderson cancer center in the United States. Dr. Iqbal was awarded an inspire faculty grant and won the prestigious Insa Young scientist medal in 2016 for his research contributions.

Dr. Iqbal’s presented on: “Cancer metabolism and its translational relevance”
The session introduced for the difference in the metabolic pathways between normal and cancer cells and discussed how cancer cells can modify their metabolism to hibernate and survive. Dr. Iqabl highlighted the importance of finding central targets related to metabolism that can halt many of the diseases present nowadays. The sessions was followed by through and fruitful discussion with the faculty members and master students about the future perspectives of cancer treatment.
