World Mental Health Day Fall 2022

Nearly one billion people live with a mental health condition. Mental health remains one of the most neglected aspects of health care. Some countries have only two mental health workers for every 100,000 people. This data stress the need to strengthen the capacity of health services to offer quality care to those in need, in particular young people. Stigma and discrimination must be addressed along with breaking down the barriers that stop people from seeking care and support. Each one of us have our role in preventing the root cause of mental health conditions, including violence and abuse to promote mental wellbeing.

In commemoration of the World Mental Health Day 2022, the 5th Semester BSN Program students conducted a Community Engagement activity on Mental health awareness on the theme of “Make Mental Health a Global Priority”, in Dulsco Company, Dubai, 10th October 2022, in Central Foyer, GMU, on 12th October 2022, in Thumbay University Hospital, on 19th October, and in Al Madinah PHC Medical Center, on 24th October 2022, to make Mental health a global priority and act urgently so that everyone, everywhere has access to quality Mental health care.

10th October, Dulsco Company, Dubai          

The World Mental Health Day was organized in Dulsco Company, Dubai on 10th October 2022 between 11:00 am to 1.00 pm. The students of BSN cohort 2020 displayed posters on understanding Depression, Anxiety Disorders, Substance Use Disorders & Students Artwork. The students also did Video demonstration on sleep disorders & Relaxation techniques. The beneficiaries of the program were 25 employees of Dulsco company.

12th October, 2022 on Central Foyer, GMU

World Mental Health Day Co-Curricular activity was scheduled to be held on 12th October, 2022 in the Central Foyer of Gulf Medical University. The timing was scheduled between 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm in order to cover maximum number of students and faculty from all the Colleges in the University.

The program was inaugurated by Prof. Selva Titus Chacko, Dean, College of Nursing. The event was declared open with a ribbon cutting and with a few words of felicitations by the Dean. The students explained each poster station to the dignitaries. The students were actively involved in inviting the faculty and students from other Colleges with green ribbon badges and goodies which was well appreciated by all.

Prof. Hossam Hamdy, Chancellor, GMU, Joined the Program and appreciated the students’ efforts and creativity to increase awareness on Mental Health.

19th October, 2022 on Thumbay University Hospital

The Mental Health Awareness Program was conducted in OPD Foyer of Thumbay University Hospital, Ajman on 19th October 2022 between 2.30 PM to 4.30 PM. The program was attended by Prof. Hossam Hamdy, Chancellor – Gulf Medical University, Dr. Moon Haque, Acting Dean College of Healthcare Management and Economics, Dr. Fozi Aboziad, Medical Director, Dr. Gurujit Singh Monga, Deputy COO, Group Chief Nursing Officer, Ms. Nancy Justina Mendonca, Assistant CNO, Ms. Bindu Baby, Dean CON, Prof. Selva Titus Chacko, the faculty and students. The program commenced after ribbon cutting and inviting the dignitaries to each station.

Prof Hossam congratulated and appreciated the students for initiating such a vital Awareness Program for the society. Ms. Nancy Justina conveyed her appreciation to the students of College of Nursing for conducting  Mental Health related activities at TUH and the importance of spreading Mental Health Awareness to general population.

The students were actively involved in inviting patients and relatives from various OPD’s to the various stations and explained on the importance of promoting Mental Health to different age groups, Depression and Anxiety disorders, and Substance use disorders. Beside Poster presentation, a Video demonstration was prepared by the students about Sleep disorders and Relaxation techniques, an activity to express feelings and ventilation of one’s feelings.

The program was attended by around 25 participants. Feedback was received and the program was well appreciated by the participants.

24th October, Al Madinah Health Centre, Ajman

The World Mental Health Day was conducted at Al Madinah Health Centre, Ajman on 24th October 2022. The students created awareness among the people regarding mental health and its importance through Posters and Video. The program was attended by adults, mothers with their new-borns and staff from Al Madinah Health centre. Feedback was received and the program was well appreciated by the participants.
