World Mental Health Day, observed annually on October 10th, is a global initiative aimed at raising awareness and mobilizing efforts to support mental health. This year’s theme, “It’s Time to Prioritize Mental Health in the Workplace,” highlights the critical importance of fostering a mentally healthy work environment. With rising stress levels, burnout, and mental health challenges in professional settings, this theme calls on employers and employees alike to take proactive steps to ensure mental well-being is prioritized. By promoting supportive workplace practices, we can create healthier, more productive, and resilient organizations.

In commemoration of the World Mental Health Day 2024, the 5th Semester BSN Program students conducted a series of Community engagement activities focused on raising Mental health awareness. These events took place at Dulsco Company in Dubai on October 10th, 2024, at the Central Foyer of GMU on October 16th, 2024, and at Thumbay University Hospital on October 17th, 2024. The aim was to promote Mental health awareness and emphasize the importance of Mental Well-being in various settings.

10th October, Dulsco Company, Dubai

World Mental Health Day was commemorated at Dulsco Company, Dubai, on October 10th, 2024, from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm. Dr. Soma Ibrahim, Assistant Professor of Mental Health Nursing, opened the program with a brief presentation on strategies to promote mental health in the workplace.

Following her presentation, students from the BSN Cohort 2022 engaged the participants with a video demonstration on relaxation techniques and fun activities designed to encourage the employees to express their feelings. The event benefitted 130 employees of Dulsco Company, providing valuable insights and tools for enhancing Mental Wellbeing at work. The employees participated actively by asking relevant questions and clarifications.

16th October, 2024 on Central Foyer, GMU

World Mental Health Day Co-Curricular activity was scheduled to be held on 16th October, 2024 in the Central Foyer of Gulf Medical University. The timing was scheduled between 12.30 pm to 2.30 pm to cover maximum number of students and faculty from all the Colleges in the University.

The program was inaugurated by Prof. Manda Venkatramana, Vice Chancellor Academics (VCA), along with Prof. Selva Titus Chacko, Dean of the College of Nursing, Prof. Mayssah El Nayal, Professor of Psychology, Dr. Adnan Ahmadiazad, Psychiatrist, and esteemed faculty from various Programs. The event was officially opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by a few words of felicitations from Prof. Manda and the Dean. Students guided the dignitaries through each poster station, explaining their presentations in detail.

They were also actively involved in inviting faculty and students from other colleges, distributing green ribbon badges and goodies, engaging in various fun games and activities which received widespread appreciation.

The event emphasized raising awareness about mental health among university students, focusing on strategies to cope with academic stress through various relaxation techniques. Additionally, it addressed job-related stress in the workplace and explored effective coping strategies for managing these challenges.

Prof. Manda Venkatramana (VCA), appreciated the students’ efforts and creativity to increase awareness on Mental Health.

17th October 2024 on Thumbay University Hospital

The Mental Health Awareness Program was conducted in OPD Foyer of Thumbay University Hospital, Ajman on 17th October 2024 between 11.00 am – 12.30 pm. The Program was attended by Dr. Essam Soliman, Associate Director, Business Development & Medical Affairs Healthcare Division, Thumbay Group, Dr. Adnan Ahmadiazad, Psychiatrist, Ms. Bindu Baby, Assistant CNO, Dean CON, Prof. Selva Titus Chacko, the faculty, and students. The program commenced after ribbon cutting and inviting the dignitaries to each station.

Dr. Adnan congratulated and appreciated the students for initiating such a vital Awareness Program for the society. Dr Essam conveyed his appreciation to the students of College of Nursing for conducting a Mental Health related activities at TUH and the importance of spreading Mental Health Awareness to general population.

The students were actively involved in inviting patients and relatives from various OPD’s to the various stations and explained on the importance of promoting Mental Health to different age groups. Besides Poster presentation, a Video demonstration was prepared by students about Relaxation techniques, an activity to express feelings and ventilation of one’s feelings.
