Faculty Development Program – Virtual Workshop on Scientific Writing

On Monday, June 21st, 2021 at 2:00 pm, the CON organized a Faculty Development Virtual Workshop on “Scientific Writing’’. An interactive and informative session was conducted by Dr. Annetta Smith, Professor of Nursing, Head of Nursing & Midwifery, Department of Nursing & Midwifery- University of the Highlands and Islands, Centre for Health Science, Inverness, Scotland, highlighting scientific writing for publication.

Day I:

The session was extremely beneficial and brought insight on the various types of scientific publications; how to choose a suitable journal, how to start the first step in writing an abstract etc . At the end of the session, Dr. Annetta assigned a task for all the faculty members on “writing an abstract following the author guidelines for a potential journal of submission of an article ” which was to be presented and discussed in the second day of the workshop.

Day II:

Dr. Annetta explained in detail about structuring a manuscript, criteria for acceptance of a manuscript, common reasons for rejection, and finally submission of a manuscript.

The faculty members presented the assigned group activity.  Active discussions were held on how to choose the suitable journal for publication and how to follow the author guidelines to avoid manuscript rejection. On the whole the workshop was a great motivation for Faculty to progress in scientific writing.
