CPR and Moulage Competitions

On October 29, 2024, the Center for Advanced Simulation in Healthcare (CASH) at Gulf Medical University (GMU), in collaboration with Leader Healthcare, hosted an engaging day of competitions and workshops aimed at enhancing simulation-based healthcare education. The events, held at GMU’s state-of-the-art simulation facilities, featured two key highlights: the CPR and Moulage Competitions and the hands-on learning workshop, “Wound Sculpting: Crafting Realism in Simulation.” The activities brought together students, faculty, and simulation professionals, fostering an environment of skill enhancement and knowledge sharing that emphasized the vital role of realistic healthcare simulations in preparing future healthcare providers.

CPR Competition involved multiple teams of students competing in a life-saving scenario that tested their proficiency in performing assessment and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Participants were evaluated on their technique, CPR accuracy, teamwork, and adherence to the AHA Adult BLS checklist. All the four teams demonstrated an impressive level of competence and dedication, showcasing their commitment to patient-centered care even in high-stress situations. The College of Nursing achieved both the first and third position, with Semester 7 and Semester 5 students securing these positions respectively.

Moulage TikTok Competition was a creative and technical showcase where students applied their skills in wounds simulation to produce realistic injuries using moulage technique. Teams were tasked with recreating injuries based on specific scenarios provided by the judges, including lacerations, burns, fractures, and abrasions. Leader Healthcare provided high-quality moulage supplies, enabling participants to work with advanced materials and tools to achieve hyper-realistic results. Students were judged on their ability to produce accurate and visually realistic wounds, their attention to detail and creativity as well as clarity in moulage presentation. The College of Nursing achieved both the first and second prizes, with Semester 3 students claiming these positions respectively.

In conclusion, the CPR and Moulage Competitions and the “Wound Sculpting” workshop exemplified the value of simulation in healthcare education, empowering students and faculty alike to refine their skills and deepen their understanding. These initiatives highlight GMU’s commitment to providing top-tier healthcare training, equipping learners with the tools and knowledge necessary to excel in real-world clinical environments.
