Community Engagement Activity – World Heart Day

World Heart Day, is observed annually on September 29, raises global awareness on cardiovascular health. It encourages individuals to take preventive measures and adopt heart-healthy lifestyles to reduce the risk of heart disease. The initiative highlights the importance of heart health in reducing premature deaths caused by cardiovascular conditions.

On Thursday, 3rd October 2024, the 3rd and 4th year BSN students initiated an awareness campaign on heart health at Thumbay University Hospital. The event was supported by Dr. Karim Ghannem, Chief Cardiologist at Thumbay University Hospital, Prof. Selva Titus Chacko, Dean of the College of Nursing, and Ms. Justina Nancy Mendonca, Chief Nursing Officer.

The students organized a range of interactive activities to educate the public in an engaging way. These included a poster station highlighting the signs, symptoms, and prevention of cardiac diseases, measurement of height, weight, and BMI calculation, live demonstrations of Cardiac exercises, both online and offline quizzes about cardiac disease risk factors, and a hands-on session on maintaining a heart-healthy diet. Many patients and visitors participated in the vent and were benefited.
