A Pink Ribbon Campaign was organized by the Master in Public Health students of College of Medicine, in collaboration with Thumbay University Hospital, Ajman, for the students of Grades 8 – 12 of East Point Indian International School, Ajman on “Risk factors, importance of early detection and methods to detect breast cancer” on October 19, 2022. The session was led by Dr. Shameema Asif Mohammed, Specialist, Obstetrics and Gynecology and Dr. Mehzabin Ahmed, Clinical Tutor.

This campaign targeted young minds to create an awareness on the factors associated with breast cancer and the available secondary prevention measures. Dr. Mehzabin in her talk highlighted the significance of pink ribbon campaign, risk factors and determinants of breast cancer. Dr. Shameema emphasized on the need for early detection and prompt treatment to reduce the impact of breast cancer on physical, psychological and social well-being of the victim. Around 200 students participated in the campaign enthusiastically.
Dr. Mehzabin Ahmed, who spearheaded the campaign said, “Knowledge is empowering, especially when it comes to health and disease. And knowledge is crucial for prevention of disease. A visit to the East Point Indian International School, Ajman to speak about the risk factors of breast cancer to young minds was a step in this journey of prevention of breast cancer. Introducing the history of the Pink Ribbon to the young schoolgirls highlights the worldwide efforts in fighting the disease.”
