“The 3rd GMU Bio-Bake Competition” was conducted on September 27, 2022. Thanks to Dr. Faten Mahmoud Diab, Professor of Medical Physiology for introducing this innovative teaching/learning strategy combining fun with teamwork.
Ten small groups of sophomores from the MBBS program showcased their creative skills and talent in preparing cakes related to the theme of their module ‘Blood and Immune System’. It was a tough competition as winners were chosen through voting. Thus, each team proved to be at its creative best!
Cakes and cupcakes frosted with cream, jellies, chocolates, cookies, and crumbs were meticulously baked depicting normal and abnormal red and white blood cells mimicking Sickle-Cell disease, Hereditary Spherocytosis, Hereditary Elliptocytosis, Hereditary Pyropoikilocytosis, Macrocytic Anemia etc. and abnormal monoclonal antibodies mimicking multiple myeloma which astounded the audience.
‘The concept, effort, and enthusiasm is truly awesome!‘ exclaimed Prof. Nelofar Khan, Head, Department of Biomedical Sciences. The event was attended by faculty of biomedical sciences who cheered the students.
The Dean Prof.Manda Venkatramana, visibly proud said, “The faculty of the College of Medicine at Gulf Medical University promotes creative ways of learning combining fun with teamwork, making learning a pleasant experience for students. This educational scholarship is appreciated and valued”.
