World Stroke Day 2019 was celebrated globally on October 29th, 2019. The key component of 2019 campaign of World Stroke Organization (WSO’s) is the strategic commitment to ‘Cut Stroke in Half’. The aim of the campaign this year is stroke risk and prevention. Aligning with this aim, a group of MBBS Year I students organized an event at the Gulf Medical University campus on 28th October 2019 for the GMU community which include not only the students and staff of various health professions but also the ancillary staff employed in the campus.
It started with a presentation which included information on stroke and an interesting quiz later, then followed by a range of activities in the main foyer of the University which included display of informative posters, arm strength measurement, balance coordination, speech evaluation etc. These were planned to keep in mind the stroke symptoms and identifying features. The students enthusiastically observed and participated in these activities and were given a small token of appreciation later. It was a learning experience for the participants also.
