Students of the medical and biomedical sciences programs from the College of Medicine at Gulf Medical University organized an awareness campaign on Helicobacter Pylori and its related gastric disorders on October 5, 2022 under the guidance of Dr. Eman Hassan, Assistant Professor of Pathology and Specialist Pathologist and Dr. May Khalil, Associate Professor of Biochemistry.

The health promotion event focused on facts about H-pylori, factors increasing the risk of infection, clinical presentation, different tools for diagnosis, updated treatment, epidemiology, and preventive measures, in addition to H pylori-related gastric disorders like gastritis, peptic ulcer, intestinal metaplasia, gastric adenocarcinoma, and lymphoma.
The event emphasized the importance of practicing good hygiene, hand washing, and clean water supply to reduce the risk of infection. “I understood that all patients with chronic gastrointestinal symptoms must be tested for H. Pylori and infected patients must be treated to prevent exposure to family members. Patients must complete the course of therapy to maximize the potential for a cure,” said one of the attendees. “I learned that patients must maintain proper nutrition to prevent iron deficiency anemia, increase cruciferous vegetable intake (like cauliflower, cabbage, and broccoli), and must be supported for improved living conditions,” said another attendee of the event.
