Career Advising Session Series: Journey to UK-Sitting the PLAB

Dr. Qasim Rauf, a GMU Alumnus currently working as a junior doctor in Nephrology at the University hospitals of Leicester, UK. conducted an interactive session with GMU medical students on the topic “My journey to UK – Sitting the PLAB” on 28th April 2021.

Dr. Qasim gave a step-by-step description about the processes involved in appearing for the PLAB examination. He also gave the students several tips on how to prepare for the same and insight into his current position as a junior doctor in Nephrology at the University Hospitals of Leicester, UK. He emphasised on how the training received in GMU, especially regarding e-portfolio as well as clinical skills helped him in his journey.

Prof. Manda Venkatramana, Dean, College of Medicine while introducing Dr. Qasim to the students said that this session was being conducted as a response to feedback received from the students from past events. He congratulated Dr. Qasim for his achievements so far and thanked him for his time to address the students about PLAB. He appreciated his quality of always being connected to his Alma Mater.

Feedback taken after the session showed that 100% of the students found the session to be useful and impactful for their career development, and the speaker made the session interactive and interesting. The analysis of the free responses by the students revealed that ample time was given for the interaction and several topics could be covered. They felt that the speaker was eloquent which made the session interesting.
