Bachelor of Science in Nursing for Registered Nurses (RN-BSN)

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing for Registered Nurses (RN-BSN) Program is designed with an aim to keep pace with the changing demands of the global healthcare services and to align with international standards of nursing education, thereby provide the Registered Nurses with diploma, an opportunity to acquire a broad liberal university education with particular emphasis on competencies. It will enhance their professional development and prepare them for a broader scope of practice. It will provide avenue to the graduates to undergo higher education in nursing.

  • The Ministry is emphasizing on a Bachelor degree as a minimal qualification for nurses to practice in UAE.
  • The proposed bridge program in Nursing is a 60 credit program for registered nurses who have passed Diploma in Nursing and also have a minimum of two years of clinical experience.
  • The curriculum will bridge the gap between already acquired knowledge and skills in core nursing courses with the latest trends and advances in healthcare practice to improve the competencies essential for practising as a professional nurse.

  • The applicant must have successfully completed high school (Grade 12)  and  3 or 3½ years program of Diploma in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing.
  • The applicant must submit an Equivalency Certificate of their Diploma in Nursing from Ministry of Education, UAE.
  • The applicant must possess Registered Nurse (RN) license from the country of origin, an active Nursing Practice License from MOH/DHA/HAAD and a valid BLS certificate.
  • The applicant must possess a minimum of 2 years of clinical experience.
  • The applicant must have passed any one of the following English Language Proficiency Tests with a minimum score as follow:
      • 1100 in Emirates Standardized Language Test (EmSAT)
      • 500 in TOEFL (CBT 173 – iBT 61)
      • 5.0 in IELTS for Academic
      • 44 in PTE A
      • B2 in Cambridge ESOL /
      • or equivalent in any other standardized internationally recognized test approved by the Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA), Ministry of Education – Higher Education Affairs, UAE
  • The applicant shall submit a copy of passport, Emirates ID, all academic documents and official transcripts/credits/grades/ marks duly attested by the Ministry of Education, UAE and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, UAE or UAE Embassy in their country on admission into the program.
  • The UAE Nationals shall submit a copy of UAE nationality ID (Khulasat Al-Kayd) and a family card with an identification number.
  • The applicant shall submit an Employment certificate, two recommendation letters, six recent color photographs, a written pledge by the applicant agreeing to comply with University rules and regulations, the application form duly filled up and a receipt for payment of a non-refundable fee towards admission.
  • The applicant shall appear for a personal interview before the GMU Admissions Committee.

Nursing is projected to be among the top 10 occupations across the globe. Nursing as a career has a high job security with a demand for nurses outnumbering their supply. 

Upon successful completion of the RN-BSN program and after fulfilling the local license/regulatory requirements the graduates can:

  • Work as a registered nurse or nursing supervisor in different healthcare settings that range from clinics, hospitals, community, industrial establishments, educational institutions, travel, defence etc.
  • Advance in career as Nurse Educator, Nurse Administrator/Manager, Clinical Nurse Specialist or Nurse practitioner by pursuing higher education as Master of Science in Nursing in specialty areas like Medical Surgical Nursing, Critical Care Nursing, Child Health/Pediatric Nursing, Community Health Nursing, Mental Health Nursing, Geriatric Nursing, Obstetrics and Gynecology Nursing, Infection Control Nursing etc.
  • Work as Consultants, Directors, Deans, Entrepreneurs, and Researchers after completing Ph.D. in any of the specialities

On Completion of the program graduate will be able to:
