Ms. Christine McDermott holds a B.N.S. (Modular) and an M.Sc. in Midwifery (Clinical Practice) from University College Dublin, along with a B.Sc. (Hons) in Neonatal Studies from the University of Southampton. She also holds additional certifications in Cranial Ultrasound, Nurse Prescribing, Radiological Referrals, and Resuscitation Training, reflecting her advanced clinical expertise.

With over four decades of clinical, academic, and leadership experience, Christine is a highly accomplished Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) in Neonatology Until her retirement on 31st July 2024, she served as ANP at The Rotunda Hospital, Dublin, where she was widely respected for her contributions to neonatal care. Post-retirement, she continues to contribute as a guest lecturer and neonatal expert.

Christine has made a lasting impact in nursing education, having served as a Senior Lecturer at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) and as a guest lecturer at various institutions. She was a core faculty member in postgraduate neonatal nursing education and played a pivotal role in developing the Neonatology Strand for the MSc Advanced Practice Programme at RCSI, showcasing her strengths as a curriculum developer.

Throughout her career, she has mentored and clinically supervised numerous ANP candidates and postgraduate students, helping shape the next generation of neonatal nursing leaders. She has also served in expert advisory roles on national committees such as the Neonatal Nutrition Advisory Group and the Neonatal Steering Group for the National Children’s Hospital, underscoring her influence on neonatal healthcare policy and practice in Ireland.
