Dr. Colin Chandler holds a BSc (Hons) in Physiology from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne (1979) and a PhD in Neural Control of Arm Movement from the same institution (1985). He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and an active member of several professional bodies, including the Physiological Society, Anatomical Society, and the British Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (BSPRM).
With over four decades of academic experience, Dr. Chandler is a seasoned educator and researcher in life sciences and neurorehabilitation. Currently a Senior Lecturer at the University of Edinburgh, he has previously served in key leadership roles such as Director of Postgraduate Research and Director of Postgraduate Programmes at the University of Northumbria.
He has successfully supervised over 40 PhD candidates and led numerous interdisciplinary research projects, particularly in neurorehabilitation, acquired brain injury (ABI), stroke rehabilitation, and physiotherapy interventions. His global research impact includes major policy-relevant studies across South India, Nepal, and Thailand, and he has secured substantial funding, including from the RCN Foundation for the YARNS projects.
Dr. Chandler has widely published in peer-reviewed journals and actively contributes as a peer reviewer for prominent academic platforms. His scholarly work continues to influence education and practice in neurological rehabilitation and health sciences globally.
