On Friday, May 12, and Monday and May 22, 2023, the College of Pharmacy at Gulf Medical University conducted a Faculty Development Workshop titled “Standard Setting and Post-Examination Test Item Analysis to Support Decision Making For Theory Exams.” The workshop was led by Dr. Eman El-Labbad, the Assistant Dean of Assessment and Evaluation.

The workshop highlighted the importance of psychometric analysis of ExamSoft’s post-exam reports. This data-driven approach aimed to enhance the validity, reliability, and objectivity of the examination process, allowing for evidence-based decision-making. Moreover, the workshop introduced participants to Cohen’s method for standard setting, which is a widely recognized approach in determining the passing score for an examination. Throughout the workshop, faculty members actively engaged in a comprehensive exploration of Cohen’s method, grasping its complexities and practical implications in guaranteeing fairness, consistency, and the determination of the appropriate cut score for theory exam.
