Dr. Raefa Abou Kouzam joined GMU in 2019 as a Researcher and Assistant Professor of Genetics, Molecular and Cellular Biology and since then she has become an integral part of the cancer research team at the Thumbay Research Institute for Precision Medicine. Her work on pancreatic cancer focused on identifying molecular signatures of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma.
She has been selected for her research that aims to investigate the regulation of pancreatic cancer antitumor immune response in the context of hypoxic microenvironmental complexity and reprogramming.

The L’Oreal-UNESCO For Women in Science Middle East Regional Young Talent Program recognizes women researchers who, through the scope of their work, have contributed to overcoming today’s global challenges and for their remarkable discoveries in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
This grant is for 20,000 EUROs (75,000 AED), Dr. Raefa is one of five selected female scientists in the Gulf region.
