College of Pharmacy Participates in Training GMU Students on First Aid

On October 1st 2022, The GMU First Aid Trainers of Trainers (TOTs) team conducted, in collaboration with International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) – regional office, the “First Aid Provider” training course that extended over 9 hours over 2 batches of 24 students. This GMU team of TOTs includes 8 GMU experts, representing the diverse health specialties within GMU. Among these participants is Dr. Ahmad El Ouweini, Clinical Lecturer at the College of Pharmacy, Gulf Medical University & Clinical Pharmacist/Preceptor at Thumbay University Hospital. During this training course, the participants coming from the 6 different colleges of GMU were trained through hands-on experience on the following skills:

  • First Aid steps
  • First Aid for:
    • Unconscious patients
    • CPR with AED
    • Burns
    • Heat Stroke
    • Bone and joint injuries
    • Bleeding
    • Medical Emergencies
    • Choking

After this course, the participants will be certified as First Aid Provider who will be organizing public health awareness campaigns to the community and non-medical workers on the basic techniques in First Aid. Additionally, these providers will be eligible to apply for First Aid Trainer certification course by the Global First Aid Reference Center and IFRC.
