GMU APPE Students Organize A Workshop On Digital Therapeutics

On 30th September 2022, 5th year APPE students, as part of their Academic Pharmacy rotation, organized a professional development workshop for faculty members at the college of pharmacy.

The workshop titled: Digital Therapeutics: What The Three Idiots Missed By Dr. Ahmed Abduldayem, B.Pharm, Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist, Certified Healthcare Quality Professional, and Founder of Drug and Poison Information Center, Prince Mohamad Bin Abdulaziz Hospital, Saudi Arabia.

The workshop focused on understanding digital therapeutics and how they are held to the same standards of evidence and regulatory oversight as traditional medical treatments. Additionally, Dr. Abduldayem stressed on the fact that technologies such as Blue Star & Nerivio should also adhere to the ten core principles to demonstrate product safety, efficacy, quality, patient centricity, privacy, and ongoing clinical impact. Questions were directed towards the speaker on how the existence of digital therapeutics can aid parkinson’s disease & what could be the long term consequences of utilizing them.

One of the APPE students who was part of the organizing team said: “I feel honored to say that the session was such a success. As none of my team members had any previous experience in organizing such an event, we felt quite nervous but we are glad that we could bring something that was very informative and we could manage the entire event”.

Another student said: “It was an amazing opportunity for me. It was an opportunity for us to practice our organizing and communication skills in a very different way. I look forward to being part of such webinars in the future”.
