Between October 7th – 9th 2022, The American College of Cardiology Middle East Congress 2022 Together With 13th Emirates Cardiac Society Congress organized an engaging forum to critically examine evidence-based strategies as well as contemporary best practices and clinical decision-making to reach the common objective of improving heart health of patients with cardiovascular diseases.

Before this conference, on October 6th 2022, a pre-conference cardiology workshop for pharmacists was held to discuss different aspects of Cardiology as they relate to pharmacists. Experts shared guideline recommendations for managing patients with different cardiovascular conditions using a case-based approach. Presentations by these experts included interactive audio responses to make the session interactive and more relevant to clinical practice.
From the GMU College of Pharmacy, Dr. Seeba Zacharia, cardiology specialist clinical pharmacist and clinical assistant professor, and Dr. Ahmed El Ouweini, pharmacotherapy specialist clinical pharmacist with focus on critical care and clinical lecturer, have attended this workshop to improve their direct patient-centred care at Thumbay University Hospital as well as transfer the gained knowledge to colleagues at GMU Academic health System.
This workshop discussed the challenges of pulmonary hypertension pharmacotherapy, the evidence-based therapeutic regimens to improve outcomes in patients with acute coronary syndromes and the hemodynamic management of shock using vasopressors and inotropes and the role of DOACs in special populations: obesity and renal dysfunction, and the current pharmacologic management of HF with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF).
