On 15th August 2022 Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) students participated in a career counseling session “Medical Sales Representative Roles in A Pharmaceutical Company” as part of their “Own Your Future” career counseling program organized by the College of Pharmacy, GMU.
Ms. Diana Nelson, Talent Acquisition Specialist for the Middle East, Turkey, Africa & Pakistan (METAP) region of Abbott Pharmaceuticals ® led the session. Students were oriented on Abbot Pharmaceuticals ® Company, its global distributions, various teams and their functioning as well as the company’s future goals with special emphasis on the medical sales representative team. Ms. Diana explained the roles of medical sales representative, the skills required to success in this field and what the day to day activities look like for the team.
The career counseling session was followed by interviewing 5 APPE candidates for an internship opportunity. During the interview session, Dr. Ahmed Abouelazm, Head of Distribution and Trade at Abbott as well as Dr. Osama Tabbara, the founding president of IVPN-Network provided constructive feedback and valuable lessons for career development for all attendees. APPE students from various rotations participated in the career counseling discussion which was helpful to them as they explore future career opportunities available in the job market.
