Mental Health issues are common and can affect any one of us. It is important that encourage people with mental health issues to seek help, because early detection can ensure mental wellness and does not have to be a life sentence with mental illness.
With this purpose in view, Mental Health Awareness Program was conducted on 25th November 2021 as part of Community engagement activity by Semester 5 BSN students of College of Nursing, GMU. The purpose of the program was to bring awareness on care of patients with Mental Health issues especially Depression & impact of Covid 19 as well as focusing on the Theme of the World Mental Health Day 2021 “Mental Health in an Unequal World”.


The program was attended by Prof. Manda Venkatramana, Vice Chancellor – Academics, Gulf Medical University, Prof. Sherief Khalifa, Dean COP, Dr. Gurujit Singh Monga, Deputy COO, Group CNO, Ms. Nancy Justina Mendonca, Dean CON, Prof. Selva Titus Chacko and the Faculty. Prof Manda congratulated and appreciated the students for initiating such a vital Awareness Program for the society. Ms. Nancy Justina conveyed her appreciation to the students of College of Nursing for being the first time to initiate on a Mental Health related activities at TUH and the importance of spreading Mental Health Awareness to general population. Prof. Selva Chacko thanked the Vice-chancellor, Prof. Sherief Khalifa, and the Group CNO for the continued support and advised the students that they should take of their Mental health to be able to take care of others and for this, one’s need to have a healthy diet, adequate rest, physical exercise, entertainment and positive outlook towards life.


The event was declared open with a ribbon cutting and the students invited to dignitaries to each station. Beside Poster presentation, a Video demonstration was prepared about Relaxation techniques, an activity to express feelings through food and ventilation of one’s feelings.


The students were actively involved in inviting patients and relatives from various OPD’s to the various stations and explained on the impact Covid-19 on Mental Health, Depressive disorders, effective tips on maintaining Mental Health, and Myths& facts.
