Dr. Jayakumary Muttappallymyalil completed her MBBS in 1993 and MD in Community Medicine in 1998 from Bangalore University, India. She was awarded a Ph.D. in Community Medicine (Infectious diseases) in 2017 by the University of Kerala, India. She worked as an Assistant professor from 1998 to 2003, as an associate professor from 2003 to 2007, and as a professor and head from 2007 to 2009 at the Department of Community Medicine, Government Medical College, Kannur, Kerala. In 2009, she joined Gulf Medical University, Ajman, United Arab Emirates.
She teaches in undergraduate programs such as MD, HDPCS, and postgraduate courses such as MPH and MDS. Her area of research interest involves Determinants of health, Non-communicable diseases, Infectious diseases, and micro and macro-environmental factors that may influence the individual’s health and health-related events. Her research involves intercollege collaborations and collaborations with regional and international institutions across the globe.
She is one of the coauthors of the paper that received the prestigious Sri Kallu Ram Memorial Young Male Scientist Award for the best paper presented in the National Conference of the Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine in the year 2005, and received three Best Paper awards for the papers presented in the National Conferences. She is one of the coauthors of the paper that received the Sri R N Roy award for the Best Paper published in the Indian Journal of Public Health (2003). She has received 29 research and scholarly awards to her credit, nine international scholarships, and seven travel grants to participate in and present papers at various international conferences. She has received two outstanding teacher awards and two awards for community services done under her supervision. She has 170 publications to her credit, presented more than 100 papers, and chaired sessions at national and international conferences. She has received research grants from the Emirates Foundation, UAE Tobacco Collaborative Research, to name a few. She supervises Public Health Ph.D. students of Texila American University. She is an Adjunct Faculty member for the University of Arizona, the United States of America.
