Dr. Abid Shaheer Karanghadan is an Assistant Professor of Biochemistry in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the College of Medicine, Gulf Medical University. He earned his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Biochemistry-Medicine from Annamalai University, India, and obtained both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Medical Biochemistry from the University of Calicut, India.
Dr. Karanghadan joined the College of Medicine in February 2014 and brings over 13 years of teaching experience. He has completed the Certified Online Educator course from Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University, Dubai, UAE. Additionally, he has extensive experience in establishing and implementing standard operating procedures for laboratories in compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
His primary research interests include the study of inflammatory markers, visceral adiposity, and adipokines. He is also deeply involved in investigating the effects of modern antidiabetic drugs on type 2 diabetes mellitus and its chronic complications. To date, he has published nine research papers in peer-reviewed international journals, seven of which are indexed in Scopus. Currently, Dr. Karanghadan is leading research on inflammatory adipokines, visceral adiposity index, and insulin resistance in relation to body mass index (BMI) in type 2 diabetes mellitus. His study aims to explore novel therapeutic approaches for obese and centrally obese type 2 diabetic patients in the United Arab Emirates. His research contributions have been recognized with Internal Research Grant awards from Gulf Medical University in 2022 and 2024.
